- How is the estimate calculated?
- Annual gas cost is (miles per year ÷ MPG) × gas price per gallon. Annual EV cost is (miles per year ÷ mi/kWh) × electricity price per kWh. Savings is the difference.
- Does this include vehicle purchase price?
- Operating costs only by default. Use the optional Extra EV purchase cost field to estimate fuel-savings break-even on an upfront price gap — not full ownership cost (insurance, maintenance, taxes, or incentives).
- What is Extra EV purchase cost?
- An optional dollar amount for how much more the EV costs upfront versus a gas car. The chart estimates how many years of fuel savings it would take to recover that gap — not full ownership cost.
